Drama Queen

This was probably one of those "you had to be there" moments, but I found it extremely funny so I just had to share this:

The scene, Shiraz - supposed to be doing her homework but wasting time fooling around.
Me – getting all het up because she was NOT doing her homework.
Meshi – doing something in another room.

Me: "SHIRAZ, IF YOU DON'T FINISH YOUR HOMEWORK YOU AREN'T GOING TO YOUR DRAMA CLASS TODAY!"
Meshi (coming out the bedroom): "but mom – THIS IS drama!".

Ok, after reading it, I see that it was much funnier hearing it come out of the mouth of a four year old, but I just love to write down the things they say that make me smile.

Back on the Wagon

It's been a while since I last wrote, and I could say that that is very characteristic of me - the only thing consistent about me is that I'm so inconsistent. When I started this blog (not long ago) I wanted to write every day (or as close to that as possible) but it didn't take long before I fell off the wagon. Ok, I'm not going to beat myself up over this little set back (I'll blame it on the holidays, the kids, the weather…) and I will pick up where I left off.

So here's what I've been up to since I last wrote…

We had a fun sukkot – I loved having the girls home with me, and specially loved not having to worry about who could or would look after then, who would take them and fetch them, and all the other worries I had when I was at work. We finally had a chance to spend time with friends and family.

We also went to Jerusalem with Lilach and Sharon to meet Hedva, Tamir and Osher (who is now walking – Congratulations!!!). We went to Sakar Park - I highly recommend visiting when you're in Jerusalem. There's a nice big grassy area, and lovely playground, a dog park and more (that we didn't see). The kids loved it, so we will definitely be going there again.

I took Shiraz to the dentist who removed two teeth – the new ones were growing behind her milk teeth, which weren't going to fall out any time soon, so we had to do it. The dentist used laughing gas, which wasn't really funny, but she was very good and she'll be getting a pair of roller blades….

We went to Big Deal and Ikea to buy shelves and lots of nick knacks. We took Meshi with us, so it was quite an entertaining day.

I can't really remember what else we've been up to, I guess that's why I should be more consistent, I will be able to write things down before I forget that I did them.

A new week

Our week started off with a great stack of pancakes – it was one of those "let them eat pancakes" situations (no bread and I didn’t fancy making any). We needed sandwiches for school, so Shiraz got pancake Nutella sandwiches (she enjoyed them and her friends thought she was lucky so I guess that worked out well). Ben enjoyed eating them while I made them, the girls got heart shaped ones, which they smothered in Nutella, and everyone was happy.

Today I got a call from the dentist's office saying that they'd had a cancellation so we've got an appointment for Shiraz on Thursday – how's that for good luck? I was about to look for a new kids' dentist because I don't want to wait for a whole month for an appointment! (Her big tooth has come out behind her milk tooth which hasn't fallen out yet, I want to see if we need to do anything about it). I know this might seem a very boring topic to write about but I can't even describe my happiness when I got that call.

Ben got his first pair of real shoes yesterday. He loved his shoshoos, but they are too small already, and it is time for the real deal. We turned the event into a family outing, the girls enjoyed "helping" with the new shoes, and we also got some winter school clothes for Shiraz. The shoes are really cute, and he just loves them, couldn't stop dancing around the shop (although he did have to get used to them). Oh well, one more pair of shoes to be left around the house…

Here's a picture of the shoe from the Papaya Company's site – Ben's are in blue.

Another thing that made me happy yesterday was when I got the call from the Dentist's office and they told me that I could get an appointment on Thursday at 12:00 I didn't even have to think twice (who will take her, can I make it, etc. etc.) It's great to be my own boss!!! Another advantage is annoying people (customers) – I can just say NO, I don't have to work with them. I had one yesterday who I did a translation for, and afterwards changed a lot of things himself – some to really bad English, and some to things that weren't in the source, I would have had to be in the meetings to actually be able to write some of the stuff…at first it really peeved me, but then I realized that I just don't have to work with him or people like him if I don't want to…ain't life great?!? And one last thing that made me happy – we got the most beautiful flowers from some of hubby's clients (because he is the best computer guy in the world).

A Sad, Sad Day

Early Wednesday morning I got a sad phone call from my mom telling me that my Granny Sadie had passed away early that morning. Granny Sadie was 96 (I always remember her telling me that she was born the year of the Titanic) and she lived a very good life.
She lived in Johannesburg and the last time I saw her was about three years ago, at my sister's wedding. She was about 93 then and was just starting to look old. I know that she was declining over the past few months, so I consider myself lucky to only have the memories of her as she was before she got ill.

Granny Sadie will always be remembered as a Lady, and of course, as a ballerina. It's hard to believe that she is gone I thing we all thought that she would always be here. Granny Sadie always seemed larger than life – our own English Rose.

Hagar's Fabric Jewelry

I thought I'd post some pieces of Hagar's jewelry that I wrote about yesterday. She will be opening her own Etsy shop soon, I'm sure that she'll do very well!

These beautiful, colorful pictures make me want to get some of my craft projects out – but I have to finish my translation jobs first, so off I go…

Things I'm grateful for today

  1. I went to the market with Effie (aka Hubby) and got lots of nice fresh fruit and veg.
  2. Got two new interesting translation jobs.
  3. Shiraz didn't have much homework (Wahoo!)
  4. Got a great email from Hagar with pictures of the gorgeous new fabric jewelry which she's been making.
  5. Ronit's (my neighbour) mom made us a delish cake, take a look...

What is Zeeba?

zeeba (zee-ba, ze-ba, zi-baa)

A word made up by Ben
1. used to express a greeting, to attract attention
2. an exclamation of surprise, wonder, elation, etc.
3. used to point something out (points at light, telephone, etc. and says "zeeba").
